Ponda Baba, often referred to as "Walrus Man," is a minor but memorable character from the Original Trilogy of Star Wars films. He first appears in Episode 4: A New Hope.
Ponda Baba is an Aqualish, an aquatic humanoid species, who is found in the Mos Eisley cantina on the desert planet Tatooine. He is easily recognized by his tusked face and bulbous eyes.
In the film, Ponda Baba is seen accompanying the smuggler Dr. Evazan, and together they confront Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Evazan threatens Luke, and Ponda Baba becomes aggressive, leading to a brief altercation. Obi-Wan Kenobi intervenes, using his lightsaber to dismember Ponda Baba's arm in self-defense. This event highlights the dangers of the galaxy and demonstrates Obi-Wan's willingness to protect Luke.
